Sooke Region Earth Day Celebration
Plastic Reduction Theme
Sunday, April 22nd, 2018
Celebration 10:00 – 3:00 + Dance 4:30 – 8:00
Sooke Community Hall, 2037 Shields Rd, Sooke, BC

Volunteer at the “Planet Earth Party”
Love our one and only planet? Want to celebration the good things happening, while learning something new as well? We need your help to make this event a success. Please consider volunteering and being part of this Earth Day Celebration!
Volunteers should have the following:
Skills
 ability to offer help and respond to task as needed
 friendly, helpful attitude
 active positions need ability to lift, move bend and climb stairs with moderate weight
 stamina to be on one’s feet for 2 hour window for active positions
 seated volunteer positions also available
Applicable Interests
 celebrating the good things happening in our area
 learning and sharing additional ways to help treat our one planet more kindly
 contributing to a successful event
 connecting with like-minded people
 getting to know people in the communities of the Sooke Region

Volunteer Positions available prior to the event:
Business Donations Appeal – 2 or 3 people – flexible time schedules
 prior to the event, we need 2 or 3 people willing to approach local businesses for raffle and prize items that are relevant to the Earth Day theme of ‘Plastic Reduction’ and align with the vision of waste reduction.
Business Survey Team – 1 – 2 people – flexible time schedules
 We have a team of 3 people though could use 1 or 2 more volunteers to ensure canvasing of businesses covers the region from Beecher Bay to Port Renfrew.
 Team members will divide up the workload and may use computer, telephone, walking and possibly driving, to meet the team aims.
Community Clean-Up Campaign – 1 - 2 people – flexible time schedules
 Coordinator needed. The goal is to create a friendly competition between each of the communities in the Region willing to participate (Scai’New First Nations, East Sooke, T’Sou-ke First Nations, District of Sooke, Otter Point, Shirley, Jordan River, Port Renfrew and Pacheedaht First Nations). Further details of the concept are available to interested parties, in the aid of keeping this short.
 This volunteer would use computer, telephone and possibly driving to make initial contact with community leaders. It will not be necessary to do a lot of driving to coordinate this project.
 Garbage pickup is being arranged. You will not have to deal with that.
Putting up Posters: 3 - 4 people – flexible time schedules
 This job involves putting up posters around Sooke, Victoria and surrounding areas in early April

Saturday - Night Before Event @ Sooke Community Hall – 6 - 8 people - 7:00 – 8:30
 Working with the Site Coordinator, this role entails helping prep venue by setting up tables, chairs, washrooms, signage, entrance area, decorations, etc.

Sunday, Day of Event
General Help, Set-up and take-down

Vendor Traffic Attendants & Setup Support - 6-8 people - 8:00 -10:00 a.m.

Bike Rack Attendants - 2 people per shift – 2 shifts - 10:00–12:30 & 12:30–3:00

Elevator Operator – 1 person per shift - 3 shifts - 8:00 – 11:00, 11:00 – 1:30, 1:30 – 4:30

Recycling Bin Monitors – 2 - 4 people per shift – 2 shifts - 10:00–12:30 & 12:30–3:00

Repair CafĂ© Fixers – 2 – 3 people– full public event 10:00 – 3:00

Speakers Corner Coordinator – 1 person – full public event 10:00 – 3:00
  Differing from the Seminars in that these will be periodic 10-15 minute segments, given by Exhibitors to further educate the public on their topic and wares.

Volunteer Coordinator – 1 person – full event 8:00 – 4:00

Exhibitor Liaison – 1 person – full event 8:00 – 4:00 (8:00 – 11:00 minimum)

Seminar Coordinator – 1 – 2 people – full public event (10:00 – 3:00)
  We will be hosting 4 seminars during the day. We are looking for someone to manage the room set-up, sound and visual system (if applicable), as well as speaker introductions. Hourly workshops will run in the Conference Room in the basement during the main event at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00.

Door & Raffle – 2 - 3 people per shift – 2 shifts - 9:15 – 12:15 & 12:15 - 3:15

Parking Attendants – 2 people – 8:00 – 10:00

Vendor Support Hosts – 2 people per shift – 2 shifts - 9:15 – 12:15 & 12:15 - 3:15
